Hotel Briol in Barbiano

Situated 1,310 meters above sea level, the modest-sized Hotel BRIOL nestles in the gently rolling alpine meadows above Barbiano. Lying at its feet is the Val d’Isarco, towering directly opposite is the majestic Dolomite backdrop of the Gruppo del Sella and Sciliar, Sassopiatto and Sassolungo. The house is steeped in history. Shaped in an intriguing cubic form, it is far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life – just like the neighbouring EINÄUGL, the ISIDOR TREE HOUSE and the houses and cottages in Tre Chiese.

Read the almost fairy-tale story behind this collection of hidden buildings here.

BRIOL is the very essence of tranquillity and nature. Even the car traffic stays below in the valley. This special place can be reached either on foot or by off-road taxi.

Even if you are not staying at the Briol, you can stop by our inn for lunch and enjoy our fresh, local specialities.

If you would like to have dinner with us, please make a reservation.

Arrival

Whether you come up the mountain to us by off-road taxi or on foot, from 3 pm onwards, the BRIOL team will be waiting to greet you at the entrance to the guesthouse. A refreshing glass of water from our own spring all ready for your arrival. Take a look around, enjoy, switch off. Now your time begins. A very warm welcome to BRIOL!

Briol

BRIOL is a place of retreat and well-being. Somewhere you can unwind and put up your feet. Hiking and biking tours go off in every direction. The secluded foothills of the Corno di Renon are right behind you or right beneath your feet. You can lose yourself inside the house – no, not because of its size, but because of its unique architecture, which characterises the historical building in every tiny detail.

Washing lines

A gentle, truly special breeze wafts through our home. “Even though the destination is not quite yet reached – the freshly laundered bed linen flutters a welcome to our guests from afar.” Always dried in the fresh mountain air, our linen captures the delicious scent of the flower meadows and releases them in your room for you to enjoy.

BOARD

Every guest enjoys half-board. A lavish breakfast buffet with a wide variety of food fortifies you in the morning. A salad buffet awaits you at noon and then, at 7 pm, you are treated to a 3 to 4-course evening menu. Predominantly sourced from the region, according to the season and homemade (in our own wood oven), of course. We are happy to cater for intolerances, vegetarian and vegan wishes. Just let us know in advance.

Even if you are not staying at the Briol, you are welcome to stay with us for lunch and dinner; for the evening, please make a reservation!

Really switch off

BRIOL does not have a TV (but it does have Wi-Fi for its guests). Instead, you’ll find plenty of warmth, tranquillity and a natural backdrop that is a treat for sore eyes. You can certainly eat your fill in BRIOL – but you’ll never get enough of the view.

Swimming pool

Did you work up a sweat on your hike or spend the day lying in the sun? It doesn’t matter. Everyone deserves to cool off in our oval-shaped swimming pool in South Tyrol! By the way, it is the first public swimming pool in South Tyrol and is filled with pure spring water – an icy cold and truly invigorating refresher.

Dogs

Your four-legged friends are more than welcome at BRIOL by prior arrangement! Please note, however, that out of consideration for the other guests, dogs are unfortunately not allowed in the dining room.

Communal bathrooms

To retain the character of the house, we deliberately chose not to have bathrooms in the bedrooms at BRIOL. We wanted to preserve the clean lines and simplicity of the rooms as they were when they were built in 1928. Each floor has three recently modernised shared bathrooms with shower and WC for our guests to use.
The rooms in EINÄUGL and the ISIDOR TREE HOUSE, however, each come with their own bathroom.

Season

Just like the style of the house, we have also remained true to the opening hours – not entirely by choice. BRIOL was built as a summer retreat and is open from May – October. We occasionally adjust our opening hours if winter lingers longer than usual. Both the neighbouring houses EINÄUGL and the ISIDOR TREE HOUSE can be rented in winter, though.

Heating

In case it gets nippy on the mountain even during our summer season, we have hot water bottles ready for each guest after dinner. They keep chilly toes lovely and warm in the bedrooms.

Annexes

Not far from the main house BRIOL you will find two more very special places to stay: the EINÄUGL and the ISIDOR TREE HOUSE. The two minimalist buildings are made of larch wood and thoughtfully blend into the natural landscape to offer a cosy retreat – here, all rooms have their own bathroom and heating.
